Today I stumbled on a FireFox extension called Gmail Notifier. It adds a status icon to the bottom right of FireFox, which polls Gmail a specified interval of time so you can know if you have new mail. You can configure it to open Gmail in a new tab (or current tab if you like) when you click it. 🙂 I’m a happier Gmail user now.
